Childhood Obesity

Sports Factory is integrating sports activity and nutrition education with fight to combat childhood obesity. Sports Factory was awarded a grant from Consortium to Lower Childhood Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC) www.clocc.net, to assist in this mission. One of the programs implemented in this fight is Step Up 4 Sports. We hosted a Racket Power Tournament http://racketpowerchicago.weebly.com/pictures-and-video.html, to give children a healthy and fun physical fitness activity. Prizes were donated by Target and T Mobile

Step Up 4 Sports

Step up 4 Sports is a new program where Sports Factory is implementing Sports training for schools that have eliminated sports programs due to budget cuts. Our target area is southside and primarily the Englewood area. We pick up where Chicago Public Schools have dropped the ball! We combine physical activity and healthy eating and nutrition education utilizing the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children campaign 5-4-3-2-1-Go!:

5-4-3-2-1 Go!

5-4-3-2-1 Go!T is the cornerstone of CLOCC’s social marketing campaign. The 5-4-3-2-1 Go! message contains recommendations for children to promote a healthy lifestyle:

– 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day
– 4 servings of water a day
– 3 servings of low-fat dairy a day
– 2 or less hours of screen time a day
